Summer Enrichment Opportunities

For: 9th graders & above

The Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge will take place this summer on the campus of Wingate University (25 miles from Charlotte).  Session I will be held June 19-23; session II, June 26-30.  During the five-day residential program, students learn about free market economics, create business and marketing plans, learn about taxes and accounting.  Ethical leadership, personal responsibility and philanthropy are emphasized.  The only cost to students is a $100 registration fee.  Dorm space, meals and activities are covered.  Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have leadership potential and interest in the free market system are encouraged to apply.  Visit www.felcexperience.org to learn more and submit application(scholarships are available, see Mrs. Harris).

 

 For: 9th graders & above
American College Foundation Visonary Scholarship Program -This could be a summer activity/project for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.  This involves writing an essay and providing other application documents.  Multiple winners will receive $1,000-$5,000.  Visitwww.AmericanCollegeFoundation.org and use "Invitation Code" to apply : M5651. 

 

For: 10th graders & above

The Youth Technology Program (YTP) is a one-week residential intensive enrichment program for students who have an interest in exploring technology. During the week, students will be engaged in several hands-on laboratory based technology activities (electronics, communications, construction, computer-aided drafting and design, etc.) that are supported by lectures delivered by faculty and/or graduate students. Program website: School of Technology; http://www.ncat.edu/~sot/  Program Cost:$25.00 to $30.00 to cover incidental expenses and selected activities.                                                                                                  

For: Rising 11th  & 12th
Summer Ventures in Science and Math Summer 2010                    
Summer Ventures in Science and math is a 4 week cost-free residential program for rising juniors and seniors. This program is administered by the NC School of Science and Math. The program is developed for high achieving students who have demonstrated a career interest in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. It is held at six sites around the state.  Appalachian State, East Carolina, NC Central, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington and Western Carolina Universities. Application deadline is January 31, 2011. Broyhill Leadership Conference is a five-day, four-night conference conducted each summer since 1982. Our 2011 conference will be held June 26–30 on the campus of Queens University of Charlotte, in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Cost is 220 registration fee. The conference is designed for students in grades 10-12 (scholarships are available, see Mrs. Harris)
